Breaking news in Oil Country as Edmonton Oilers insider Bruce Curlock reports that GM Stan Bowman is expected to sign prospect Paul Fischer.
It's no secret at this point the the Edmonton Oilers took a massive blow over the offseason, losing Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway via offer sheets to the St. Louis Blues.
Initially, fans were devastated as two of their best players were snatched away, resulting in the Oilers losing a huge chuck of their offence and speed.
Despite the offer sheet situation, there seems to be a glimmer of hope that has emerged from the devastating transaction.
However, that transaction had a connected move that flew under the radar. The Oilers received Paul Fischer and a 2028 third-round pick for future considerations.
According to Liam McCormick, Today, unsigned Oilers prospect Paul Fischer made news by making the cut for Team USA's World Juniors roster, and one insider has said it's guaranteed that Edmonton will sign him soon.
Fischer is a 19 year old left shot defenceman with the University of Notre Dame in NCAA. According to Bruce Curlock, Fischer has an outside chance to make the USA roster, but more of a chance to earn a contract with the Oilers afterward.
The Edmonton Oilers acquired the rights to 6'1 defenceman Paul Fischer, a left hand shot regarded for his smooth skating and play making abilities.
From a points perspective, he recorded 16 points in 34 games last year. This season, he currently has nine points in 16 games.
With the recent news of Fischer making Team USA's World Juniors roster, insider Bruce Curlock guarantees GM Stan Bowman will sign him.
Although the Edmonton Oilers lost two of their best players via offer sheets, having a prospect like Paul Fischer rising to stardom definitely softens the blow for Oilers fans.
