According to new reports from the 2 Mutts Podcast, the Edmonton Oilers have been deemed front runner to sign defenceman John Klingberg the two parties are closing in on a deal.
A few weeks ago, Edmonton Oilers pundit Bob Stauffer revealed that GM Stan Bowman had his eyes set on an "off-radar" defenceman, and it appears that John Klingberg is the target.

Klingberg would be paired up with Nurse & he would get the opportunity to play on the PowerPlay as well, the fact that they could bring in Klingberg by not giving up any draft picks or trading any young players away has been a huge talking point in the organization.

Klingberg is exactly the type of defenceman the Oilers are seeking. He's a big, smooth skating blue-liner with a right shot who can play top-4 minutes.
According to NHL Trade Rumor, He has amassed 412 points in 633 NHL, showcasing his playmaking abilities and puck-moving prowess. His best season came in 2017-18 with the Dallas Stars, where he tallied an impressive 67 points in 82 games.
Although no formal announcement has been made yet, I fully expect Stan Bowman to pull the trigger on John Klingerg.
If it works out, Klingberg could play as high as their top four and use his puck-moving skills to make the Oilers offence even better. If it doesn't, it would be an easy contract to bury in the minors.
