Matthew Savoie's family calls out team Canada's politics
Hockey Canada's junior system appears to be in shambles after suffering another humiliating quarter final exit to Czechia, and Matthew Savoie's family has had enough of the problematic system.
Recenly, Matthew Savoie's dad took to social media to call out Hockey Canada for their brutal tactics, and how it directly interfered with his son's life and decision making.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Matthew's father Scott Savoie explained how he wanted his son to play in the Alberta junior Hockey League next to his older brother Carter to give Matthew some time to decide whether he wants to go to the Western Hockey League.
He goes on to state that Hockey Canada denied his request and that they deemed their son Matthew exceptional as a way for him to go to the WHL right away. He also explains that this tactic blocked Savoie's eligibility to go to the NCAA to play for an American school.
-Oilers Daily
Hockey Canada will stop at nothing to keep their homegrown talent in Canada, and it's not the first time this issue has impacted the future trajectory of young players.
This move certainly has caused some havoc and much discussion on how this will affect CHL going forward as hockey players can go to United States schools, get their education can be eligible to play for an NHL team at the NHL draft.
-Oilers Daily
Recently, the NCAA removed all barriers between the CHL and the NCAA, which allowed young Canadian players to go to school in the states and be recognized as amateur players, not pros.
Although Matthew Savoie's family called out Team Canada about Hockey Canada's practices, upper management must develop new strategies to address the systemic issues young players face.
The recent World Juniors embarrassment has also highlighted significant flaws in team selection, coaching, and the overall process that require a massive overhaul.
