The nature of the injury is somewhat confusing as Charlie McAvoy looked fantastic during Team USA's victory against Team Canada, but what was thought to be bumps and bruises was clearly something far more significant.
McAvoy, along with forwards Matthew Tkachuk and Auston Matthews, was already held out of Monday's game for precautionary measures, leaving the U.S. with 11 forwards and six defensemen against Sweden.
Later in the game, Brady Tkachuk, Matthew's brother, sustained an injury in the first period and left the game shortly after. Sullivan says Brady Tkachuk's departure was precautionary, as the team already secured a spot in the championship game on Thursday.
Mike Sullivan confirms Charlie McAvoy injury
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, While speaking to the media, USA coach Mike Sullivan only confirmed that McAvoy would miss the next game against Canada, but seemed more optimistic that other players would be available.
Charlie obviously is now he's out with an upper-body injury. Austin was more banged up or nicked up I should say. We'll probably have more information [Tuesday] with those guys.
