Another slow start costs the Edmonton Oilers a crucial win
Well folks, that was an absolute treat to watch last night. Despite the heartbreaking 4-3 loss, the Edmonton Oilers showed true heart and grit, battling back from a 4-1 deficit. While the Edmonton Oilers impressed with their ability to stay in the game, the Toronto Maple Leafs taught the Edmonton Oilers an important and costly lesson -- coming out flat in the 1st period is a recipe for disaster.
According to Edmonton Journal's Robert Tychkowski, They forgot their lines, they left their fly open and might have even thrown up a little in their mouth. That was Act I. After that, they settled down and turned into Broadway superstars, outshooting Toronto 34-16 over the final 40 minutes and outscoring them 3-1.
By game's end the shot attempts were a whopping 91-44 for Edmonton. It wasn't even close. But the Oilers still left Rogers Place on the wrong end of a painful and obvious lesson - you can't spot a team like Toronto a 3-0 lead and expect to come out of it with anything other than misery and defeat.
Edmonton Oilers comment on the loss
«Once we started keeping it simple and getting on them, playing five-on-five, we were good, we were all over them,» Oilers defenceman
Evan Bouchard said after the 4-3 loss. «But when you dig yourself a hole like that it's tough to come out of.»

«If we make fewer mistakes, then we are probably going to win the game, that's what it comes down to. I thought we controlled most of the play. Obviously the shots (48-28) will tell you the same and chances probably will as well. Not a bad game. But it's tough to go down three goals twice, so it's something to clean up.»

Leon Draisaitl«A couple of turnovers led to penalties against and then their power play went to work,» said Oilers veteran
Corey Perry. «If we eliminate those turnovers, I think we would have had a better start. We played with the puck quite a bit tonight. If you eliminate those early mistakes, those little things in a game, and it could be different.»
-Corey Perry
