Chris Pronger responds to Connor McDavid's cross check
The Edmonton Oilers are coming off a disappointing 3-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, but Connor McDavid has landed himself in the hot-seat for an egregious cross check on Connor Garland. Despite the nasty nature of the hit, former Oilers defenceman Chris Pronger commends McDavid for standing up for himself.
Let's face it -- Connor McDavid has endured excessive abuse from players around the league for far too long.
Now, it appears that Connor McDavid has had enough and is finally clapping back at players taking liberties on him.
According to Ryan Hall of Oilers Daily, Dave Staples of the Edmonton Journal wrote that former Oilers defenseman Chris Pronger loved the response that McDavid showed against
Conor Garland and felt that this was needed more often in the game.
Several former stars speak out in McDavid's defense.
«Actually love it. Needs to do this more often, maybe not to the level of suspension like this, but it will give him some extra space. Teams key on taking time and space away from him and try to frustrate him. Taking it into your own hands is good sometimes.» Chris Pronger Former Oilers defenseman
Other former NHLers including Jordan Schmaltz thinks there should not deserve a suspension but predicts that there is likely a one game suspension heading McDavid's way.
«McJesus two chins in one week!! Bringing the criminal element!!.» He later added, «My prediction? In this climate it will be 1 game for the best player in the world but honestly it shouldn't be anything. Bad for ratings and league revenue sharing.» - Jordan Schmaltz Former NHL player
Regardless of the outcome, it's nice to see McDavid finally standing up for himself.
Even if he get's suspended, players will think twice about roughing him up -- or they might loose a couple teeth in the process!
