Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid met with the media today for the first time since his three-game suspension for a cross-check on the Vancouver Canucks Connor Garland.
While McDavid disagreed with the NHL's decision, he said his focus remains on moving forward and preparing for the rest of the season.
McDavid admitted the suspension might have been excessive but said that he understands the need to take responsibility:
"You know, a lot's been said about it, a lot of people talking about it. The league made their decision. I don't necessarily agree with it. I'm not saying there shouldn't have been any penalty or suspension or anything like that. It might be a little harsh, but I understand their decision, and gotta move on."

Even if he feels frustrated, McDavid and the Oilers decided not to appeal the suspension and insider Ryan Rishaug has confirmed the team's decision.
The Oilers organization released a statement yesterday signaling its dissatisfaction with the suspension and the incident has restarted debates about the NHL's protection of its star players and the inconsistency in officiating.
McDavid ranks 197th in penalties drawn per 60 minutes this season and is on pace to draw half as many penalties as last year.
For the next game, the Oilers and Canucks face off in Edmonton for an anticipated rematch and with McDavid sidelined, the tensions could run high as both teams look to make a statement.
For now, McDavid is focusing on helping the Oilers when he returns to the lineup and his leadership and ability to navigate this challenging situation will be important for the team's future success.
