Connor McDavid gives motivational speech to his former team
Recently, the Erie Otters honoured Connor McDavid by retiring his number, raising his name to the rafters of his former junior arena. While this distinguished honour is well deserved, the Oilers captain went the extra mile by giving the Otters a little pre game speech.
Connor McDavid emphasized that this is a special moment in their careers -- encouraging them to have fun, wear the jersey with pride, and embrace every moment. Wise words from the game's best player.
What an incredible video. Connor McDavid looked like Herb Brooks up there, standing and speaking extremely confidently in front of the next generation of NHL stars.
The look on McDavid's face was absolutely priceless. Oilers fans have grown so used to their captain's mundane interviews and serious demeanour, that seeing him so filled with joy and emotion was something really cool to see -- refreshing, almost!
Former Erie teammate
Dylan Strome also sent McDavid a heartfelt video tribute, congratulating him on receiving such a distinguished honour.
"Hey Dave-O, It's Strommer. Just wanted to come on here and say congrats for having your number retired by the Erie Otters. You're one of the best players that's ever played in the organization, or THE best player that's ever played in the organization. It was an honour to get to play with you and be your friend. Cheers to all the good memories we had and hopefully we can make some more in the future."
-Dylan Strome
