Corey Perry scored one of the most bizarre but impressive goals of the season for the Edmonton Oilers tonight by dodging an unusual obstacle on the ice - nachos.
In a play that will be talked about for several years, Perry showed incredible focus to fire a one-timer past
Logan Thompson with an assist coming from his teammate,
Leon Draisaitl.
The incident happened as Perry skated down the wing, and nacho debris fell on the ice and he skillfully avoided the snack while positioning himself for Draisaitl's setup.
Perry made a perfectly-timed shot and cut the Capitals' lead to just one goal, but Thompson was not happy and he immediately gestured to the referee by claiming that the nachos may have distracted him as he was looking for the puck.
The decision to let the goal stand surprised many because under normal circumstances, the play would have stopped to clear the debris, but the Oilers capitalized on the nacho score and shifted the momentum.
Fans were quick to react to the "Nacho Goal," with many laughing at the absurdity of the situation and they were talking about Perry's knack for finding himself at the center of moments like these.
As he is known as one of hockey's biggest pests, this goal will surely add to his reputation in the NHL.
The goal had significant implications for the game since Perry's goal brought back the Oilers' chances in the game and brought hope for a comeback.
Whether it's remembered for its impact or its absurdity, this is one moment the Oilers fans, and Thompson for sure, won't forget anytime soon.
