Edmonton Oilers achieve rare feat not seen in 80 years, Mattias Ekholm responds with snarky comment
The Edmonton Oilers are coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Las Vegas Golden Knights last night, and the team achieved a rare feat not seen in 80 years.
The Edmonton Oilers were shutout last night, but it wasn't for a lack of trying.
Although the Edmonton Oilers managed to play a full 60 minutes, the game presented very little space -- and the Golden Knights defensive stick play was exceptional.
The game also had no penalties called for either side. This makes it the first NHL game in 80 years to have just one goal scored and no penalties. The last game to have that happen occurred all the way back in 1944 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks.
-Daily hive While this record may dazzle most NHL fans, Edmonton Oilers defenceman Mattias Ekholm didn't seem too amused during his post game interview.
As for the lack of penalties, Oilers defenceman Mattias Ekholm felt it may not have been as clean a game as the record will show, making a cheeky comment regarding the lack of penalties.
«You'll have to ask the referees about that, I don't know,» Ekholm said with a grin. «It was a well-checked game I thought. A couple things that could have been called, but I thought they kept it pretty even.»

To be fair, the referee's were letting both teams play an aggressive style, and the officiating was fair and balanced on both sides.
Furthermore, Las Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Adin Hill absolutely stood on his head last night -- continuing his impressive trend against the Edmonton Oilers.
«Could have went either way,» Draisaitl said after the game. «I thought we had enough looks in the third to tie it up but, obviously, their goalie was on.»
-Leon Draisaitl The Edmonton Oilers will look to get their offensive juices flowing when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow night.
