Although the Edmonton Oilers aren't considered a force regarding their current prospect pool, but you would be remiss not to acknowledge to emergence of Connor Clattenburg, who was recently been compared to the likes of former Oilers legend Kelly Buchberger.
Back in December, Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman signed prospect Connor Clattenburg to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Since then, he's been making noise in the OHL by playing some old school hockey and putting up impressive numbers.
Insider compares Clattenburg to Kelly Buchberger
Recently, Oilers insider Bruce Curlock published his weekly prospect report, comparing Connor Clattenburg to an Oilers legend.
Clattenburg has 27 points in 37 games and is only two points behind his season-high total of 29 points. He has increased his shot totals from 1.75 shots per game to 2.3. He's done all this while maintaining his feisty style of play racking up 91 penalty minutes in those 37 games which includes a couple of suspensions along the way.
When I watch Clattenburg, I get this old-man moment of thinking that I am watching Kelly Buchberger of Oilers fame. He of the 1182 NHL games with 2297 minutes in penalties. That's high praise, no question, and it is way too early to make a prediction of this type of success. However, when I watch him play, I see a lot of Buchberger in his game. This week was a good sample of that style of play.

Overall, I think this is a great signing by Stan Bowman.
Clattenburg had an impressive showing during training camp, and he could potentially emerge as a sneaky star forward in years to come.
