Former Edmonton Oilers fan favourite could have one last NHL opportunity

Recently, ex-Edmonton Oilers fan favourite Sam Gagner was signed to a PTO with the Ottawa Senators farm affiliate in Belleville, and he's settled in with his new team and making the most of his opportunity. That said, the Ottawa Senators are currently plagued with injuries, and Sam Gagner might get the NHL opportunity he's been fighting for.
According to Ryan Hall of Oilers Daily, Sam Gagner is performing well with the Senators farm team, and with the NHL club currently decimated with injuries, it's possible they sign him to an NHL contract and call him up. Gagner can still be an offensive threat in the bottom six, and a needed locker room leader on a very young Sens team in the playoff hunt.
It's become clear that the Ottawa Senators need forward help as many of their players are on injury and unable to play. It's safe to say that general manager Steve Staios will likely offer him a contract of a two way nature prior to the NHL trade deadline as a way to add to his depth and veteran leadership.

Sam Gagner fighting to keep his career alive
Before his opportunity with the Belleville Senators, Sam Gagner received the distinguished honour of captaining Team Canada at the Spengler Cup -- the first stepping stone towards an NHL comeback.
Although the Canadians didn't achieve their desired outcome, being named captain boosted his value, prompting the Belleville Senators to take a calculated risk by signing him to a PTO.
In 7 games with the Belleville Senators, Sam Gagner has notched 3 assists, and another opportunity at the NHL level sounds inevitable.
