Kris Knoblauch demonstrates that coaches with a calm demeanour can be the most effective
The Edmonton Oilers are currently one of the hottest team's in the NHL, and head coach Kris Knoblauch is the recent subject of praise for his calm coaching style.
Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch has earned the nickname "coach comatose" due to his composed demeanour on the bench and during media availabilities.
When discussing his team and players, Knoblauch consistently maintains a measured and positive tone, always meticulously framing his comments to provide encouragement for his struggling players.
It's no secret that the Edmonton Oilers got off to a less than ideal start to the 2024-25 campaign.
Although the Edmonton Oilers played poorly the first 10 games of the season, goaltender Stuart Skinner was heavily under the microscope for his lacklustre play between the pipes.
Despite his shaky start, Kris Knoblauch's faith in Stuart Skinner never wavered.
«I think it's great. Adversity is good for everybody. It's either you're going to lose somebody and they're going to get replaced, and not come back in the league, or lose your role or whatever it is. Or you're going to learn from it and get stronger. I was very impressed with Stu last year. Any time he did have a bad game or let in a bad goal, he always took ownership and stepped up.»
David Staples comments that Knoblauchs comment seems stark, even hard-boiled. That said, it's excellent to hear that Knoblauch may not be the imperious or threatening or bullying type, but he's no fool and is well versed in the realities of the pro game.
I also suspect there's little need for the coach to rip players after they play a bad game, as the players are well aware of the stakes and of the precariousness of their position in the NHL.
-David Staples
Regardless, Kris Knoblauch's calm, cool, and collected coaching style remains a key factor in helping certain players breakout of slumping performances.
