Leon Draisaitl is making his new contract look like a bargain
Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl is on a heater right now, currently leading the NHL in goals and sitting in 2nd place in the overall point race. Back when Leon Draisaitl signed his monstrous $14 million dollar AAV contract over the summer, fans around the league we're somewhat critical of the deal. Fast forward to the new year, his contract hasn't even kicked in and he's making it look like a bargain.
Back when Connor McDavid injured his ankle vs the Columbus Blue Jackets a few months ago, Leon Draisaitl landed himself under the microscope.
It was time to show the NHL that he's a big time player -- and the Deutsch Dangler delivered.
Funny enough, Kris Knoblauch recently commented that it was McDavid's injury that lead to a significant uptick in Draisaitl's performance.
»He's been at another level. It really started going back to that Columbus game, or shortly after that, where McDavid was hurt. He stepped up with McDavid's absence and he really hasn't looked back, he's put together a nice string of games.»

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, In every facet of the game, Leon Draisaitl is having a dominant season. His 29 goals leads the NHL, his defensive play is seeing a resurgence, and he's even got more points than Connor McDavid.
If this level of play keeps up, Draisaitl should be in the conversation - if not the favourite - for the Hart Trophy, and perhaps the Selke too. Oilers fans are incredibly lucky to witness such a great player having a great season.
