With the NHL Trade Deadline approaching, the Edmonton Oilers are expected to be buyers this year.
Brandon Carlo is a right-shot defenseman known for his shutdown ability and he signed through 2027 at a $4.1M AAV, he also brings experience with 610 NHL games and 72 playoff appearances.
However, he's having a down year and Boston may be willing to move him for a roster player and a second-round pick.
While the Oilers need defensive depth, Carlo's cap hit could be a concern for the Oilers since they just signed
John Klingberg.
On his side, Trent Frederic is a gritty two-way forward who can play center or wing and he set career highs last season with 18 goals and 40 points, but his production has dipped to 15 points in 55 games this year.
At $2.3M per year, he's expensive for a fourth-liner but offers physicality, penalty-killing ability and playoff experience.
Together, Carlo and Frederic carry a $6.4M cap hit which the Oilers could absorb if
Evander Kane remains on LTIR until the playoffs.
However, if Kane returns early, their cap flexibility will be limited.
Boston's trade deadline approach will depend on their playoff position, but Edmonton could be a serious trade partner if they become sellers.
A one-stop-shop trade for both players would solidify the Oilers' lineup for a deep playoff push.
Would you like the Edmonton Oilers to add both or one of these players before the trade deadline?
