The Edmonton Oilers are currently trying to get things back on track, but goaltending remains and underlying issue for the team.
According to Liam McCormick of
Oilers Daily, The first two candidates are ones that have been publicly connected to the Oilers already.
John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks would reportedly waive his no-trade clause to join Edmonton, and San Jose Sharks goalie
Mackenzie Blackwood could be available and a quality option for a cheaper salary.

1. Mackenzie Blackwood (San Jose Sharks)
Age: 27
Current contract: $2.35 million (2025-UFA)
2024-25 stats: 4-8-3, .902 SV%
Mackenzie Blackwood is by far the best goalie that may be on the trade block this season. He has shown well on a terrible San Jose Sharks team, and he has a very manageable cap hit that is under $2.5 million.
2. John Gibson (Anaheim Ducks)
Age: 31
Current contract: $6.4 million (2027-UFA)
2024-25 stats: 4-0-1, .925 SV%
Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson is reportedly open to being traded to the Oilers, and he's doing a lot to win over fans. Despite a few down seasons and injury woes, Gibson's stats are sparkling through his first five games of the season, even while on a bad Ducks team.
3. Vitek Vanecek (San Jose Sharks)Age: 28
Current contract: $3.4 million (2025-UFA)
2024-25 stats: 2-5-1, .899 SV%
If the Sharks want to keep
Blackwood to platoon with Askarov, they will need to find a new home for Vitek Vanecek.
