Team Canada is coming off an epic 3-2 overtime victory over Team USA last night at the 4 Nations Face-Off final. That said, Edmonton Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky is facing backlash after making an appearance before the game, where "the great one" was welcomed with a roar of boo's across TD Garden.
We try to keep politics out of the blog as much as possible, but you would be remiss not to acknowledge the controversy Wayne Gretzky has stirred the past few weeks regarding his close friendship to Donald Trump.
Fans upset Wayne Gretzky named as honorary captain
Wayne Gretzky was named as Team Canada's honorary captain, which has sparked some controversy considering Wayne Gretzky's unwavering support to Mr. Trump.
According to the Hockey News, back in November Trump hosted a Republican gathering. Several high-profile guests, including Elon Musk, Bryson DeChambeau, and former Edmonton Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky, attended the event.
Paulina Gretzky, Wayne's daughter, shared a group photo on her Instagram stories.
Mr. Trump went as far as saying that Wayne Gretzky should be elected as the new "Governor" of Canada.
"I was with Wayne Gretzky. I said, 'Wayne, would you like to be the governor of Canada?' I can't imagine anybody doing better than Wayne," Trump said at a Mar-a-Lago press conference earlier this month.
"Wayne was not too interested. But he probably would have liked statehood," Trump added. "He's a friend of mine. He's a great guy. He's the great one. We call him the great one, right? He's a great hockey player."

With Trumps recent claims stating Canada should be come the "51st" state, fans around the league are irked that Team Canada's honorary captain is someone who shares close ties to the U.S President.
