You won't believe which Canadian team has surpassed the Edmonton Oilers as Stanley Cup favourites
For the second season in a row, the Edmonton Oilers have been unanimously named Stanley Cup favourites across the board, but now, they've been leap-frogged by the Ottawa Senators.
Thats right, the Ottawa Senators. New data from Money Puck has indicated that the Edmonton Oilers have dropped down to 7th, and the Ottawa Senators have jumped ahead of them in 5th place.
During the NHL offseason, Money Puck had the Oilers in first place, but their inconsistent start to the season has impacted their odds. Below the Oilers are the Winnipeg Jets and the Vancouver Canucks -- rounding out the top 10.
These new stats by Money Puck are confusing to say the least. The Winnipeg Jets have been off to a record breaking start to the NHL season, but sit below just the Edmonton Oilers in 9th place.
The Senators actually have the worst record out of the aforementioned teams at a 8-7-1, but for some reason, MoneyPuck must really love their chances of making the playoffs and facing up against their Atlantic Division rivals.
Ottawa hasn't made the playoffs since their rebuild, and although they're looking much better this season with a proper starting goalie and their young talent taking another step, they'll have a long, long, long way to go before they prove themselves to be a better Stanley Cup threat than the Oilers.
-Liam McCormick, Oilers Daily
As it stands, the Edmonton Oilers have the second best shot out of any Canadian team to bring home the cup. Currently sitting at a 9-7-1 record, the Oilers seem to be getting things back on track.
The team takes on the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight, and they'll look to climb up the NHL standings in what should be an epic matchup.
