Connor Mcdavid gave his honest reactions about the three fights between Team Canada and Team USA
While the intensity surprised many, Oilers superstar
Connor McDavid had nothing but praise for his teammates.
Before the puck even dropped, the Bell Centre atmosphere was electric with boos during the national anthem fueling the fire in the USA side.
As the game began, three fights broke out in rapid succession and in his post-game comments, McDavid fully backed his teammates for stepping up.
"We wanted to get off to a good start, get the fans into it. Pretty proud of all three of those guys to step up and do that.
It was fast, tight checking, competitive, emotional. It had everything you'd want in a hockey game, I thought."
- Connor McDavid
Oddly enough, McDavid's full interview was longer than the 51-second clip uploaded by Sportsnet and the Oilers.
In the extended version, he showed his support for his teammates by showing no regret about the chaotic start.
While some criticized the anthem booing and the Tkachuk brothers' problematic behavior, the players and coaches on both sides applauded the passion.
Brady and
Matthew Tkachuk later admitted they had pre-planned the fights by wanting to make a statement.
Brandon Hagel revealed that tensions were going up even before puck drop, with the Tkachuks taunting Team Canada during warmups, but Canada didn't back down.
Despite the early energy, Team USA emerged victorious with a 3-1 win by securing a spot in the final.
