Edmonton Oilers scouts reportedly seen at Madison Square Garden
Breaking news in Oil Country as Edmonton Oilers scouts were recently spotted at Madison Square Garden, keeping close tabs on potential trade targets on the New York Rangers.
After the Edmonton Oilers blew-out the New York Rangers 6-2, New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury seems to be hitting the panic button.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports that the New York Rangers have placed captain
Jacob Trouba and
Chris Kreider on the trade block, and GM Chris Drury is open to parting ways with other members of the team as well.
Before the Oilers blowout victory, the New York Rangers were sitting at a respectable 12-6-1 record, but the loss to the Oilers has clearly emphasized major flaws in their lineup -- they have since tanked to 15th overall in the league.
Trading Trouba, their team Captain, is a significant message itself. The 30 year old right shot defenceman is under contract for $8M per season for this season and next, and in recent years, his level of play has gone downhill.
According to Ryan Hall of Oilers Daily, there has been an increase in scouts being spotted across the arena as teams get a look at the players that have been named available by Rangers general manager Chris Drury which include Chris Kreider, Jacob Trouba,
K'Andre Miller and
Kaapo KakkoThe Oilers have been scouting the league for upgrades on their secondary scoring and their defence core which has underperformed for most of the season.
Although The New York Rangers would undoubtedly have to retain a huge chunk of salary to strike a deal, the Edmonton Oilers are obviously aggressively searching the market for some help.
