ESPN analyst claims Connor McDavid may not re-sign with the Edmonton Oilers
ESPN Greg Wyshynski has never been a fan of the Edmonton Oilers, and his recent remarks have yet again ruffled feathers in Oil Country. Recently, Greg Wyshynski
appeared on Jeff Marek's Podcast, stating McDavid may not re-sign with the Edmonton Oilers.
It's no secret that Edmonton Oilers captain
Connor McDavid will be up for a contract extension in 2025-26, and hockey fans around the league are fully expecting him to commit to the Oil for another 8 years.
With that being said, ESPN analyst Greg Wyshynski has a different opinion.
Greg Wyshynski claims Connor McDavid may not re-sign with the Oilers
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Greg Wyshynski said his informed speculation is that McDavid isn't at all guaranteed to stay in Edmonton, and the next few playoff years may decide his fate.
»I think that the next couple of playoff seasons for the Oilers, whilst Connor McDVid remains under contract are very, very important. I don't necessarily believe anymore that Leon signing is a harbinger for Connor signing. I don't think it's guaranteed.
- Greg Wyshynski
First off, I just want to say that Greg Wyshynski is completely out to lunch here.
Leon Draisaitl signed an 8 year extension over the off-season, and there's no way he would have done that without knowing McDavid would follow suit.
As previously stated, Greg Wyshynski has never been a fan of the Oilers and has admitted that having two generational superstars in a Canadian market is bad for hockey.
"Here's the section that's going to irk Oilers fans the most, but let's be real," Wyshynski wrote. "Draisaitl re-signing means it's likely that two of the top five players in the NHL could be tethered to Alberta through 2033."
«Not New York or Chicago. Not Boston or Detroit. Not Toronto. Not Los Angeles... Edmonton. It's not just about the city in which they play. It's having two megastars on the same team in that city, rather than anchoring their own rosters among the league's other 31 (for now) teams."
Wyshynski is throwing massive shade towards Edmonton and the overall market here. Obviously, Edmonton is not LA or NYC... but the Oilers have proven to be the most entertaining and electric team in modern day hockey.
To claim that McDavid may not re-sign in Edmonton is ludicrous, and Greg Wyshynski should probably resign from reporting.
