The Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for reinforcements, with forwards Matthew Savoie and Derek Ryan expected to be recalled after participating in the team's Tuesday practice. Savoie is also set to join Edmonton on their upcoming five-game East Coast road trip.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Savoie and Ryan were granted to join team practice without a roster move due to the absence of their players at the 4 Nations Tournament. While for now it is temporary, it's possible one of the forwards stays with the team.
For Savoie, this potential call-up marks a significant moment. While he has yet to make his Oilers debut, the 20-year-old has been tearing it up in the AHL. With 10 points in his last 10 games and 37 points in 43 outings this season, he's not only second in scoring for the Bakersfield Condors but also leads all U21 players in the AHL.
The Oilers have plenty of reason to be excited about his progress, especially after acquiring him in a surprising trade for Ryan McLeod last summer.
Matthew Savoie has impressed all season long with the Bakersfield Condors, securing his spot on the AHL's all-star team, additionally winning the fastest skater in the skills competition.
All season, fans have been screaming for him to be called up, and it appears that his time in the NHL has finally come.
