Russian Edmonton Oilers prospect is tearing up the KHL
The Edmonton Oilers are currently facing a crisis regarding their prospect pool, but a young player from Russia is giving the organization a glimmer of hope.
Renently, TSN's Craig button concluded his annual breakdown of every NHL teams
U-24 prospect pool, and the Edmonton Oilers ranked 27th in the NHL.
With that being said, Maxim Beryozkin representing Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL is absolutely on fire to start the 2024-25 season.
The Edmonton Oilers drafted Beryozkin 138th overall back in the 2020 NHL entry draft, and he's slowly emerged as one of the most dynamic prospects on the Edmonton Oilers.
Currently 23 years of age, Maxim Beryozkin is is currently in his second full season playing for the Lokomotiv, but his recent play has been sending shockwaves across the fatherland.
On Thursday, Beryozkin scored his first career hat trick in the KHL. He played 17:39 in the game. Before that, the most he had scored in a KHL game before was one.
That brings his season totals to nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 32 games. He currently leads his team in points while averaging 15:49 of ice time per game. Beryozkin's nine goals on 77 shots give him an 11.7 shooting percentage.

Beryozkin's contract is set to expire in May of 2025, and I fully expect Stan Bowman will be negotiating with Dan Milstein (Beryozkin's agent) to bring him overseas for the Oilers training camp next season.
As it stands,
Matthew Savoie and
Sam O'Reilly better start looking over their shoulders. If Beryozkin continues this level of production, he could very well be the Oilers top prospect heading into the 2025-26 NHL preseason.
